What Does Hide Alerts Do in the Messages App?

Is everyone suddenly active on your family or friends group chat leading to your iPhone constantly ringing? Or, are you a victim of continuous spam messages filled with promotional content for services you didn’t even sign up for? In either case, the Hide Alerts feature in the Messages app is a lifesaver.

Enabling Hide Alerts allows you to focus on whatever you are doing without being distracted by unnecessary notifications. While some of us use Focus modes, we do not block notifications from the Messages app for various reasons. Also, our contact details are readily available to several companies, and as a result, we receive spam messages.

If you’re tired of promotional spam messages, you can block these numbers. However, they might just spam you again with a different number. Additionally, it might not be considered polite if you outright block your family or friends. Read along to learn the purpose of the Hide Alerts feature and how to use it.

What Is the Purpose of the Hide Alerts Feature?
The purpose of the Hide Alerts feature is to disable notifications for a particular conversation in the Messages app. Once you enable this feature for a conversation in the Messages app, you won’t receive any notifications from that conversation. However, you’ll still receive notifications for other messages.

I love using the Hide Alerts feature. It is an excellent alternative to blocking companies that spam you with promotional content. Because when I block these numbers, they spam with another number as soon as their system detects that they’ve been blocked. So, instead of blocking, I enable the Hide Alerts feature. Now, even if these companies spam with hundreds of messages, I do not get notified about them at all.

It also works as a mute button and allows you to leave or ignore a conversation without leaving the group or blocking the person. We’ve all been pestered by someone or the other, for something that we aren’t comfortable with or have the bandwidth for. With all that said, read along to learn how to enable Hide Alerts for messages in the Message app on iPhone.
