Instagram Notes lets users express their thoughts and share their favorite music in a unique way. While notes from your Instagram friends automatically disappear after 24 hours, they can sometimes be annoying. If you would rather not see someone’s notes, Instagram allows you to mute (or unmute) them.
Seeing some notes appear on top of your Instagram messages can be distracting. The good news is that muting notes on Instagram is an uncomplicated process, and you can choose to unmute them at anytime. This post will walk you through the steps to do the same on your Android or iPhone.
For this article, we have used an Android phone. However, you should be able to follow the steps on an iPhone too, since the Instagram interface is nearly identical on both platforms.
How to Mute Instagram Notes
Muting someone’s notes on Instagram still lets you view their posts and stories. Also, Instagram does not notify the other person that you have muted their notes. And since there is no way to track who has viewed your Instagram notes, the other person is unlikely to find out.
There are a couple of ways you can go about turning off notes from someone on Instagram. Let’s go over both of them one by one.
Mute Instagram Notes From the Messages Section
The quickest way to mute notes from a user is via the Messages section. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the Messenger icon at the top-right corner. Long-press on the note from the user you want to mute.
Step 3: Tap the Mute notes option and select Mute notes to confirm.
Mute Instagram Notes From the User Profile
Another way to mute notes from a user involves visiting their profile. This method can be helpful if you also want to mute stories and posts from that user.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the search icon at the bottom. In the search box, type in the username of the person whose notes you want to mute and select the relevant result.
Step 3: Tap the Following option.
Step 4: Select Mute and toggle off the switch next to Notes.
Unfortunately, Instagram does not provide an option to mute or turn off notes from all users at once. As a result, you will need to mute notes from each user individually. That said, if you have an Android device, you can use Instagram Lite, which does not support the Notes feature. Alternatively, you can also use Instagram on your computer.
How to Unmute Instagram Notes
If you change your mind later, unmuting notes from a user is pretty straightforward too. Here’s how to do it.
Unmute Instagram Notes From Privacy Settings
The Privacy menu in the Instagram app makes it easy to unmute notes from several users at once. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app and tap the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner and select Settings and privacy from the resulting menu.
Step 3: Under the ‘What you see’ section, tap on Muted accounts.
Step 4: Tap the Unmute button next to the user whose notes you want to unmute and toggle off the switch next to Mute notes.
Unmute Instagram Notes From The User Profile
If you already know the username of the person you want to unmute notes from, use these steps:
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app on your phone.
Step 2: Switch to the search tab. Type in the username of the person whose notes you want to unmute in the search box and select the relevant result.
Step 3: Tap the Following button.
Step 4: Select Mute and turn off the toggle next to Notes.
After you unmute the user using either of the methods above, you will start seeing their notes in the Messages section.
